It is with the utmost regret that Anaheim University announces the death of one of its greatest patrons, Dr. Kisho Kurokawa. He died October 12th, 2007 in Tokyo. A renowned, international figure in the world of architecture, his work presaged the growing concerns of the world's ecological crises. His contributions to the university were profound not only through his philanthropy, but also through his wisdom in advising the university in the development and advancement of its plans.
Dr. Kurokawa last met with representatives of our University in Tokyo on September 21st, 2007. Stoic visionary, philosopher, and statesman, he outlined plans for the future. These included his architectural projects, but also touched on the personal themes that were so important to him. He talked of his plans for a Green Party that could have a global impact upon every aspect of society. He was particularly impressed by the University's plan to establish a "Green MBA" program that could be delivered online. We even talked about an online architectural program that would advance his philosophy.
He also had a keen interest in students and along with actress Carol Burnett had established the Hamilton-Kurokawa Scholarship Fund through the Academia Foundation, a non-profit public charity in Southern California. The Foundation provides an opportunity for those wishing to contribute to the fund in his name by sending donations to The Academia Foundation in care of the fund. Anaheim University will also be accepting contributions from our friends and supporters and will make a group donation at a special memorial event to honor Dr. Kurokawa scheduled for January 2008 in Tokyo, Japan.
While he will be sorely missed by the professional community, his ideas and thoughts are still very much a part of the University's mission. As we begin our second decade of providing global education, we can remind ourselves that Dr. Kurokawa was our counsellor, mentor, and friend. His memory will be forever a living one to us all.
Clive L. Grafton, Ed.D.
